How does your brand measure up?

1. Does your organization have a clear vision and mission?*

Yes. We have a clear vision. Our mission is well-defined and current. When we communicate with prospects, employees and vendor, we’re consistent: we understand who we are and so does our audience.

We came up with those a few years ago. We’re still using them, but the world has changed for our business and our customers. I’m not sure they still resonate. We probably need to look at them again?

We need to redo ours, but we haven’t wanted to go through the time, stress and expense to do so.

2. Are your messages and communications consistent?*

Yes. We focus on a few key messages. All of our employees understand and use them consistently when communicating about the company.

We came up with some great messages to use a few years ago. But, as we’ve grown, we haven’t updated or reinforced them and not everyone is using them outside of marketing.

Messaging is ad hoc. We may be confusing our customers. I’m not sure if our target customers really understand who we are or how we’re different from our competitors.

3. How often do you review your digital and print communications?*

We conduct an annual communications audit to make sure all of our communications are current. It’s a review of all marketing materials – print, digital and social. This keeps everything consistent, company-wide.

We make sure new marketing content is correct, but we haven’t taken a 360-degree review in a longtime. It is starting to feel like communications overload internally and we’re beginning to loose control.

Honestly, one hand usually doesn’t know what the other is doing, when it comes to our communications. We add new initiatives and campaigns to go after new business, but we’re probably recreating the wheel many times.

4. Does your organization have a strong visual identity?*

We have a current visual look that we’re proud of. It really captures our essence. Our customers and employees think it looks great. It feels authentic.

We put a simple design and logo together with a graphic designer when we started. It is starting to look a little dated. It looks a little generic. No one ever comments on it.

We have a logo, It’s not very good and we’ve never really developed an overall look and feel for our communication materials and website.

5. Does your company have a brand guide?*

We have a brand guide that everyone is expected to adhere to. It’s clear and it’s current. We also share it with vendors and anyone else that is talking about our brand, so they are consistent, too, in how our visual identity is presented, from logos and font types, to colors.

We don’t have an actual brand guide and it’s frustrating because we constantly have to police our communications company wide. Therefore our brand is not seen consistently internally or externally.

Yes, but our company has grown through acquisitions and we now have sub-brands and companies that we need to develop new brand architecture and guidelines for.

Yes and no, it needs serious updating.
